We are slowly brainwashed and this process began long ago.
You cannot change a society suddenly. It will rebel, do it slowly and in a nice way, and people not realizing it, will be willing to change.

But unlikely Hitler who used entirely the methods of terror, the methods of physical violence, what is going to happen in the future is that dictators will find, as the old saying goes, that you can do everything as long as it is what they want. That if you want to preserve your power indefinitely, you have to get the consent of the ruled, and this they will do partly by drugs and partly by these new techniques of propaganda.

And it’s extremely important to stress this in all our educational life, and I would say it’s also very important to teach people to be on their guard against the sort of verbal booby traps into which they are always being led, to analyze the kind of things that are said to them. Well, I think there is the whole educational side of…and I think there are many more things that one could do to strengthen people, and to make them more aware of what was being done.
Education and culture is NOT a sum of notion, it is the training to critical thinking, it is never accepting what one is told, but always discussing.
It is giving clues and expecting answers and solutions.
Freedom
You could produce plenty of goods without much freedom, but the whole sort of creative life of man is ultimately impossible without a considerable measure of individual freedom of…that initiative, creation, all these things which we value, and I think value properly, are impossible without a large measure of freedom.
As much as I think the quantity of ideas make the GREAT idea.
Progress is not just the discovery of something new.
It is the use you do of that something new.
And, unlikely many think, the progress is MADE by the bottom of the pyramid.
The top is too busy thinking how to rule, how to impose itself, how to survive, to understand that progress is very often the product of need, joy the product of suffering.
A world where everything runs perfectly is a still world, life where joy and happiness are the norm is plainer and sadder.
Normality and boredom kill more than need.

That is what everybody wants, young or old.
You could be deprived of many material things that in principle not only do not make you happy, but in certain cases make you even unhappier and still be happy.
What I do not agree with, is that all men are created equal.
In reality (and that is the good of nature) everybody is unequal, we are all individuals who have similarities, but are different in their similarities.
That is the base for building a society which is really democratic.
That every man is an individual and has the same rights as all others, one of them being the pursuit of happiness.
Individualism and freedom to reach the goal you want, that is real freedom.
A society build on the fact that there are no individuals, but what counts is the “State” the “Nation” not only kills the freedom, it also kills progress, kills the right to pursue one own happiness.
Because happiness is in the dream, in the effort to reach it.
Happiness is in what you do to be happy.
America was a great nation as long as people were free and had the means to pursue their goals.
That was the American dream, the dream of a better life for oneself and for one’s children.
Progress is made by individuals, not by nations.
